In late August Cabinet would discuss tax incentives for builders

In late August, the Minister of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, Allison Francis, said it will soon present a bill to grant tax incentives for construction companies and the Cabinet would discuss the initiative.

"The Housing Ministry is evaluating a set of tax proposals by the Peruvian Chamber of Construction (Capeco) in order to boost productivity and investment in the sector, after a certain contraction was presented by the international crisis" he said.

He said that so far his office has held four meetings with Capeco and during the next meeting to be held from Fiestas Patrias, the guild issued its proposed business bill.

"The proposed Capeco will be analyzed and reviewed by experts from the Ministry of Housing and then presented to the Council of Ministers, then it will obviously acting as a legislative initiative of urgency in Congress," he said.

The minister expressed the hope that you will get the support and consensus with other cabinet members for the proposal forward, especially because the purpose is to promote the construction sector has been affected by the international financial crisis.

According to the National Statistics Institute (INEI), the construction sector grew 16.46 percent in 2008, but in the first five months of 2009 has accumulated a 2.55 percent growth.

"Obviously this is an initiative of the Ministry of Housing which goes hand Capeco orders, and we know we need consensus in the Council of Ministers or perhaps a majority support for its submission to Parliament as a bill," he said.

He also emphasized that the objective of the Ministry of Housing is important to resume growth construction sector recorded the previous years.
