A new year starts MTC delivery of land for second runway of the airport Jorge Chavez

Minister of Transport and Communications, Enrique Cornejo, reported that at year end should start delivery of land adjacent to Jorge Chavez International Airport to build the second runway.

He said that between January and November 2010 should be issued the results of arbitration awards to continue the delivery of land to the concessionaire Lima Airport Partners (LAP).

"Under the contract, the land must be submitted in one package and sanitized, but we will see the formula for the concessionaire receives part of the land whereas economic growth has generated a large influx of aircraft and require ample space" he said.

He said the first land to be handed over are north of the head, considered as most important by the concessionaire due to its strategic location for the installation of hangars and aircraft repair shops.

The commitment of LAP in the concession contract of Jorge Chavez Airport is to list the second runway by 2014, which shall be 3.500 meters long by 45 meters wide, similar to the current track.

Cornejo also reported that next week the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) must approve the viability of the Project to Improve Néstor Gambetta Avenue at Callao, to begin work that will improve access to country's main port.
