Construction sector grew 4.9% in third quarter

contruccion The Central Reserve Bank (BCR), said the construction sector grew 3.3 percent in September, registering for the third consecutive positive results compared to the same month last year, with an advance of 4.9 percent in the third quarter and three percent between January and September this year.

He explained that in order to compare the performance of the sector from one quarter to another in the same year the seasonally adjusted figures are used and from them is seen expanding 4.4 percent in the third quarter from the second.

This shows the continued strength of the sector by the implementation of housing projects, construction of offices and commercial premises by the private sector, for increased public spending on construction, repair and maintenance of roads, schools and hospitals, he said.

It is also noted that in September local cement dispatches grew by 4.2 percent compared to the same month last year.

Meanwhile, the physical progress of works grew 36.7 percent reflecting the work of road construction and rehabilitation conducted by the special projects of transport infrastructure (Provías) National and Decentralization.

According to information from the Association of Cement Producers (ASOCEM), local offices in October reached the highest historical level (671 thousand metric tons), and thus a growth rate of 9.9 percent compared to the same month last year.

This result is explained mainly by strong sales of this material into the country, said the BCR.
