presidente-de-ositran The chairman of the Supervisory Agency for Infrastructure Investment in Public Transport (Ositran), Juan Carlos Zevallos, said currently there are 20 concession contracts signed that mean five billion dollars of investment commitments in infrastructure investment.

How do you analyze the development of infrastructure in the country?

"In recent years, our country witnessed a significant investment in infrastructure, both public and private.

If we refer only to the transport infrastructure, currently there are 20 concession contracts signed that mean five billion dollars of investment commitments. Already executed two billion dollars, ie 40%.

In the next two years, plans to spend another two billion dollars.

"These investments will impact on reducing the infrastructure gap?

"Exactly. According to the Peruvian Institute of Economy (IPE), the deficit in infrastructure in the country amounts to 14 billion dollars.

With these investment commitments virtually assure coverage of only half of that deficit with private sector participation. The remainder would be covered by new concessions, convened by the State, as well as direct investment from the Government.

"These commitments, in addition, offer some support to deal with possible crisis?

"It is. These investment commitments will be developed in the next 25 years. This means that if there comes a crisis like the one recently passed, these funds will not go because there is a commitment.

The key variable for all this is realized is to respect and strengthen the institutions of the concession system, ie regulators have strong, independent, with sufficient autonomy.

In addition to these benefits, what are the benefits of concessions for the people?

"I think the main benefit is to have concessions at this time, with adequate infrastructure, we are sure, the Government could not have developed in 25 years.

About all this new infrastructure develop economic and social benefits for the surrounding population. For example, between communities and Acongate Urcos in section 2 of the Inter-Oceanic highway, we see populations benefited through training for the provision of services and in the production side we have the implementation of technology-intensive irrigation systems only found in Coast.

This is the concession model that we promote for the whole transport infrastructure and utility development in Peru. Companies seek the involvement and interaction with the community.
